In complete contrast to the Morecambe game earlier in the week this game saw virtually everything that the Dragons create end up in the back of the Stanley net. It took 20 minutes for the Dragons to open the scoring, Luke Carding whipping a good cross from the left and Jordan Kane sending a header to the keeper’s left. Five minutes later it was 2-0 when Jamie Price volleyed a corner from the right in from close range at the far post.
Just before half-time Kane grabbed his second goal of the game when he capitalised on a mix up between the keeper and one of his central defenders before lobbing the ball over the keeper’s head and into the net. After the break George Stewart notched his fourth goal of the season with a right foot finish from another Carding cross to make it 4-0, before substitute Rob Pearson slotted the ball to the keeper’s left to make it five.
The sixth, and probably the Dragons’ best goal of the season to date, came when Chris Maxwell gathered an Accrington corner and threw the ball quickly to Mark Head down the left-hand channel. Mark turned and slid the ball through to Paul Williams who’d bombed forward, took the ball on the edge of the box, and fired it into the top corner of the net from 18 yards out.
