With goalkeeper Arthur Johnson's train from Liverpool delayed by fog, Wrexham were forced into a late switch with centre-back Reg Holland deputising between the posts. Reds' trainer Jack Davies was also on the same train, so Wrexham Leader journalist Reg Herbert took over as 'sponge man' until the pair finally arrived 30 minutes into the game.
