Match postponed on the Friday morning to prevent Newcastle from travelling to north Wales. With the Racecourse Ground covered in several inches of snow, successive heavy overnight frosts had left the pitch unplayable and the inspection by match referee Norman Glover (Leicester) was a mere formality.
