Wrexham extended their winning run to 13 games in all competitions with a deserved 3-0 win over AFC Fylde at the Hollingsworth Group Stadium. Despite missing several players, Dan Nolan’s charges controlled the game throughout and extended their lead at the top of the Youth Alliance to seven points in the process.
With Wrexham's reserve side in action at Accrington at the same time, the Young Reds were without Owen Cushion, Dan Davies, Jacob Milner, Jake Roberts and Dan Wright and could name just Cai Evans on the substitutes' bench.
With Callum Edwards coming in for Milner, and Alfie Hussey replacing Cushion, the Young Reds wasted no time in taking the game to their opponents, Harry Dean opening the scoring after 11 minutes. The centre-back capitalised on a quick corner-kick routine which saw Harry Ashfield square the ball across the six-yard box, leaving the defender to tap the ball home at the far post.
Fellow striker Caleb Hughes doubled the lead five minutes later when he rifled home from 15 yards out after good work from Edwards. Harry Ashfield added a third four minutes from time to round off the scoring.
"We weren't at our best but the lads got the job done," was Nolan's post-match assessment. "We missed that little bit of experience the second-year players bring to the side."
