Wrexham were indebted to a man of the match performance from goalkeeper Louis Parr as they maintained their unbeaten start to the league campaign with a goalless draw at Silverlands.
With former Reds’ defender Frank Sinclair in charge of the home side, it was clear that Buxton would provide a stiff challenge from the off as Jack Young forced Parr into a fine right-handed save inside the first three minutes.
Jack Dillingham was next to threaten the Wrexham goal as his 25-yard shot flew narrowly over on 16 minutes before Bucks’ substitute Evan Catt shot wide after a fine run by Dillingham.
Parr had to react quickly to turn a near post effort from Catt away for a corner as the Young Reds struggled to get a foothold in the game, Dan Jones having the visitors first effort of note shortly before the interval when he fired wide under pressure.
Coach Dan Nolan made two changes at the interval with Rowan Davies and Harry Bell coming on for Jacob Milner and Owen Cushion and gradually Wrexham began to enjoy a greater share of possession.
That said Buxton still posed a threat going forward and Parr did well to keep out a header from Owen Hopkinson just after the hour mark, collecting the ball at the second attempt after somehow parrying the initial goal-bound effort.
Substitute Jack Towse then forced the Bucks’ keeper into a rushed clearance which went straight to Dan Jones but he could only fire wide, letting out a yell of frustration which echoed around the Derbyshire hills.
The Reds’ keeper made another fine save from Speakman before Caleb Hughes replaced defender Oli Hitchcox as Wrexham went in search of a late winner, the winger setting up Towse for a shot which was tipped over by McKenzie Bennett.
In truth, Buxton fully deserved a share of the spoils and had more than enough chances to have won the game against a lack lustre Wrexham side still seemingly suffering a hangover from their two cup setbacks.
