Match referee H. Holt (Rochdale) stayed overnight in the same Derby hotel as the Wrexham team. He made an early start to inspect the snowbound Field Mill pitch and it didn't take him long to call the game off. His decision was relayed to the Wrexham team and officials who had remained in Derby.
